Hydrogen Transportation Applications Report Highlights (MDHD) - week 1

This is the first post in a weekly series highlighting key insights from SEP’s latest report.
Hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives are emerging as viable fuels to decarbonize many transportation sectors. At SEP, our Transport Tracking Database monitors thousands of global announcements for medium- and heavy-duty (MD/HD) trucks, ships, material handling equipment (MHE), buses, rail, aircraft, and SAF.
Of the 352 announcements we tracked from 2023 to 2024, 123 were for hydrogen HD truck orders and projects, covering more than 18,000 vehicles (with 88% reporting vehicle counts). Range matters:
⧫ Minimum range: 124 miles
⧫ Median range: 497 miles
⧫ Maximum range: 746 miles
This indicates that the median hydrogen HD truck is well-suited for medium-haul applications, while the top end of the range can support long-haul operations.
