DOE Clean Energy Demonstrations Director Scott Milliren to Keynote 2026 Hydrogen Mountain Retreat in Boulder
BOULDER, Colo., October 19, 2026 – Scott Milliren, Director of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), will travel to Boulder to deliver the lead keynote address at the 2026 Hydrogen Mountain Retreat (HMR) on Wednesday, October 28. Saoradh Energy Partners (SEP) is the organizer of the event.
Milliren's keynote is expected to address the Hydrogen Hubs program, OCED's guidance and priorities, and the criteria for new hydrogen projects under consideration for hub funding. The topics bear directly on companies and project developers working to move hydrogen technologies from demonstration to commercial deployment.
Milliren directs OCED within DOE's Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation (CMEI), where he oversees a multi-billion-dollar portfolio supporting the commercial deployment and scaling of energy, materials, and industrial manufacturing technologies. The work supports DOE's mission to strengthen domestic supply chains, expand American manufacturing, and provide affordable, reliable, and secure energy. OCED's role is to bridge the gap between innovative technologies and commercial-scale deployment, advancing projects that strengthen U.S. energy infrastructure and accelerate the adoption of clean energy solutions.
HMR convenes approximately 100 industry leaders each year from across North America and key global markets. Participants include decision-makers in investment, business strategy, and project development across the hydrogen value chain. The retreat focuses on exchanging insights, building partnerships, and advancing commercial opportunities, and it provides a forum for discussing the policies and market conditions shaping the hydrogen industry.
"Director Milliren's participation will give HMR attendees important insights into project funding guidelines for hydrogen hubs and other federal programs and priorities shaping the next phase of the hydrogen energy sector such as underground resources development and exports of ammonia and methanol," said Paul Nelson, Managing Partner at Saoradh Energy Partners.
