Solar Photoconversion Reports 4 & 5
Solar photoconversion technologies (photovoltaics and concentrated solar power) is forecasted to power 50% of the 83 thousand terawatt-hours (TWh) needed globally in 2050. This benefits our climate as the average carbon footprint of solar is 40 g CO2e per kWh compared to coal’s footprint of 1000 g CO2e per kWh. However, rapid scaling and technology improvements are needed given solar only contributed 3% to 4% of the 27 thousand TWh generated globally in 2020. This report analyzes solar photoconversion technologies (including cell and modular technology), the most promising pathways to achieve 2050 objectives, and identifies the most investable companies and industries.
